Marshmallow
A pink-on-pink painting inspired by the shape and color of a marshmallow - that same light and dark pink, and the airy but gummy texture. Split down the middle - light pink on the left, dark pink on the right, with the contrasting X shapes inspired by Polish embroidery.

The story behind this painting
Marshmallows have that specific texture - dense and gummy, but somehow still airy when you pull one apart. This painting holds onto that contrast: light pink and dark pink, split cleanly down the middle, like two halves of the same piece.

The process
The X shapes here are relatively small compared to the size of the canvas. At this scale, the focus shifts away from any single X and onto the pattern as a whole - less about each individual shape, more about how they add up together.

Cross-stitching
The X shapes in 'Marshmallow' are smaller, relative to the canvas, than in other paintings in this collection. It brings them closer to the actual scale of a cross-stitch. That repetition - one small stitch, placed over and over - builds the pattern one shape at a time.
