Obsessed with X shapes

Cross-stitching

My love for X shapes started when my grandmother taught me cross-stitching, a traditional embroidery technique, when I was 5 years old. Since then, this odd obsession has stayed with me through my whole creative life.

Traditional textiles

Folk art and traditional Polish clothing are a big inspiration for my work. We don't appreciate enough this art made by earlier generations of women. Because of these influences, my work carries a certain femininity and nostalgia.

Uniqueness

From far away, all X shapes look uniform, but when you come closer, you realize that each one is unique when it comes to shape, texture, color combination, the way the light hits it, and the shadow it casts.

Repetition

There's something meditative about building patterns of 10s, even 100s of X shapes. It is very similar to cross-stitching - the same rhythm, the same slowness, and the gradual filling of the space.
