Soft even in the dark

'Glow' captures that quiet stretch of colour right after a sunset - the soft pink afterglow that remains on the sky once the sun itself has already gone. I love pink. It stays warm and soft even when it turns this intense and dark. That contradiction is what this painting sits in - colour that's both soft and heavy at the same time.

One X at a time

I build this painting one X at a time. The texture shifts from shape to shape, the colour pulls warmer or cooler, and the orange underneath finds a different way through each time. All X shapes look uniform from a distance, but up close all the subtle differences become real.

Unplanned quality

There's something meditative about repetition - threading a needle through fabric, or painting the same X shape onto canvas, over and over. Each one is hand-painted, with its own texture, slightly different from the last. There's an unplanned quality to that difference too: the small variations seem to appear on their own, in the moments when my hands are doing the work and your mind settled.
